Here is a stuningly beautiful antique, suffragette ring in tip top condition.
Set on a thick, fully hallmarked 18ct gold band, this superb antique ring features a large amethyst (approx 5 x4mm) sandwiched between four old cut diamonds and two round, bright, peridots, (each approx 3x4mm). The claw set gems are all in super condition, and they catch the light beautifully.
This piece of history is clearly hallmarked for Brimingham, 9ct Gold, and the year, 1915, just 3 years before the WSPU (Women's Social and Political Union, which was campaigned for women's suffrage) disbanded in 1918.
This ring is currently a UK size N1/2 (US 7), but it could easily be re-sized up or down. It weighs a very helathy 3.6g, and it has been cleaned and is ready to wear.
Suffragette jewellery (mainly rings and pendants) were worn during the Edwardian era to show support for the women’s suffragette movement. There are several stories about the suffragette colours, but the most popular says that their colours spelt out the secret message; Give Women Votes! (Green for ‘Give’, White for ‘Women’ and Violet for ‘Votes’.)
These antique rings are a real peice of women's rights history and originals are extremely difficult to find. They get snapped up very quickly!
